The Tyco DSC WS4936 is a wireless life-safety detector that combines photoelectric smoke sensing, fixed-temperature heat detection, and rate-of-rise heat detection in a single low-profile device. Designed for DSC 433 MHz wireless security systems, the detector transmits smoke alarms, heat alarms, tamper conditions, low-battery conditions, and detector trouble information to a compatible control panel or wireless receiver.
The WS4936 provides a 135 F (57 C) fixed-temperature heat alarm and rate-of-rise detection that responds when temperature increases rapidly over a short period. Its photoelectric smoke sensor has a published alarm sensitivity range of 1.26% to 2.39% obscuration per foot. Automatic drift compensation helps maintain smoke-sensing performance as environmental conditions change, while high- and low-sensitivity reporting alerts the control system when the detector requires attention.
The detector incorporates an 85 dBA minimum ANSI Temporal 3 alarm sounder, a local test button, and an 8-minute automatically resettable hush function. Three AAA batteries power the detector and provide approximately 3 years of expected service under typical operating conditions. Low-battery monitoring provides approximately 14 days of remaining battery indication, and the WS4936 transmits supervisory messages to the control panel at 64-minute intervals.
The DSC WS4936 measures 5 inches (125 mm) in diameter by 2.5 inches (63 mm) high and weighs approximately 8.75 oz (243 g) with batteries installed. It operates from 40 F to 100 F (4.4 C to 37.8 C), with heat detection specified from 32 F to 100 F (0 C to 37.8 C), and supports 15% to 90% non-condensing relative humidity. The North American WS4936 is listed to UL 268 and ULC-S531 and is designed for compatible DSC residential and small-business fire protection systems.
